Frequently asked questions

Pricing & billing

Why doesn't the app have a free option?

Every account gets a free trial of the full app, but there's no permanent free tier after that — a subscription is required to keep using it. The reason is cost, not a marketing choice: AI photo scans and AI food search each call a real AI model behind the scenes, and that costs money per use no matter who's asking. A free tier big enough to be genuinely useful for logging real meals would mean giving that away indefinitely, which isn't something a small app can sustain. Subscribing is what keeps those features running and the app improving.

Do I need to pay to use this app?

Yes, after a free trial. Every account starts with a free trial of the full app, and continuing after it ends requires a subscription — there's no permanent free tier. Billing is handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play, and you can cancel any time before the trial ends with nothing charged.

What does my subscription unlock?

Everything: AI photo scans, AI food search, barcode scanning, voice logging, Squads, and the personalized Mifflin-St Jeor calorie target. There's no separate free tier of features to compare against — an active trial or subscription is what keeps the whole app working.

I subscribed but the app still asks me to subscribe — what do I do?

From the paywall or subscription screen, use "Restore purchases" to re-sync your entitlement with the store account you subscribed with. This is usually just a brief delay after purchasing.

AI photo scan & cuisine recognition

How does the AI photo scan work?

Take or upload a photo of your meal; the app identifies each item, estimates its weight, and calculates calories and macros. You can adjust portions, add anything the scan missed, and edit items before saving.

Does it actually understand non-Western food?

Yes — see the Cuisines page for the full explanation. In short: every scan is classified into a cuisine bucket (South Asian, East Asian, Western, or other) before estimation, so the model applies that cuisine's real cooking conventions — the typical oil, the typical portion — instead of a single Western-default guess.

Why does the scan sometimes get my meal wrong?

Photo-based estimation is inherently approximate, especially for mixed dishes or unusual angles. Adjust any item's weight or macros before saving — corrections also help improve future scans.

How accurate are the calorie and macro numbers?

Treat every number in this app — AI photo scans, database matches, and manual entries alike — as a rough, practical estimate of what you ate, not a lab measurement. If you need exact values for a medical reason, consult a registered dietitian or a professional nutritional analysis.

Squads & account

What are Squads?

Small groups of friends who see each other's daily logging presence and streaks for accountability, and can share specific meals to the group's feed. Everyone controls their own sharing level (presence only, name + photo, or full nutrition details).

Can I get a copy of my data, or delete my account?

Yes to both, from within the app — Account > Export my data generates a downloadable copy of everything you've logged, and Account > Delete account & data permanently removes your account and everything associated with it.
